Mackenzie & Ben, Carmel Valley Ranch

An Artist Bride and Tech Founder Groom Designed a Wedding Where Every Detail Was a Work of Art

The couple met at the USC Iovine and Young Academy, the interdisciplinary program founded by Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine. Ben was part of the inaugural class, where he co-founded the AR company Mira, later acquired by Apple, before launching the venture fund Genius. Mackenzie, an artist whose work spans large-scale oil painting, printmaking, and graphic design, brought her creative lens to every aspect of the celebration.

Rather than decorating a wedding, Mackenzie approached the weekend like curating an exhibition. Every detail was intentionally connected, from the color palette and sculptural florals to the architectural ceremony and dinner structures. Rice paper installations served as both an artistic medium and a subtle nod to her Korean heritage.

The vision began with her custom Danielle Frankel gown. Inspired by the hand-painted artistry of the Juniper dress, Mackenzie collaborated with the design house to create a one-of-a-kind version based on her own sketches. The gown’s painted florals became the visual foundation for the entire wedding.
